Stocksbridge PS 0 Sheffield Utd 5
Saturday saw the first preseason game for both The steels and visitors Sheffield United. Chris Wilder in his first game as The Blades manager decided to give all the squad a game, playing a different eleven in each half.
As the sun began to shine for the first time in the day 1665 supporters packed into the Look Local Stadium, the overwhelming majority have come to see Sheffield United's new signings.
The game started brightly for Stocksbridge having the first shot on target, Joe Lumsden forcing a save from Aaron Ramsdale.
A couple of corners in quick succession followed the second producing a looping header from central defender Matt Reay which was easily gathered up by Ramsdale. But after that the visitors began to dominate the game new signing Marc McNulty came close on 90 minutes when his clever lob from just outside the area flew inches above David Reay's crossbar.
The first goal came just one minute later, new signing Chris Hussey’s cross was volleyed home into the bottom corner by Matt Done. Four minutes later Done almost had a second, but his effort from the edge of the box was well saved by Reay.
A second of United fans to celebrate followed on 27 minutes. Marc McNulty got on the end of Done’s low cross from the left with a simple finish from close range.
United's third goal came on 39 minutes, the impressive Matt Done's shot, from outside the area flew straight through David Reays hands into the top of the Steels net.
A couple of minutes later McNulty grabbed his second round in the keeper and scoring from close range.
Ten minutes into the second half, Che Adams made it five when he collected the ball from the left and scored right-footed from inside the area.
Steels main effort in the second half came from a couple of free kicks from good positions, unfortunately both were smashed into the wall.
Chris Hilton's team now travel to Worsboro Bridge on Tuesday, 19th July. Kick-off 7:45pm
