Stocksbridge PS 1 Shaw Lane 0
Steels beat Shaw Lane to inflict their 1st defeat of the season.
Steels showed some character after a poor showing on Saturday. Although a few changes were made due to both Rotherham loanees returning to their parent club. The return of Corey Gregory made a difference and it was within a 7 minutes when Biggins sent in a free kick, it was half cleared and Joe Lumsden pounced on it and shot from just outside the area to make 1-0 to Steels.
Lumsden then a few more chances but couldn't quite make the net bulge. At the other end Reay had to make a great save at point blank to deny Shaw Lane. The visitors piled on the pressure but never seemed to find the finishing touch.
The 2nd half was a slow start although Jake Whelen nearly caught the Shaw Lane keeper off his line but the keeper recovered well.
Ruthven had a few half chances. Then Lumsden snatched the ball off Shaw Lane, ran half the pitch but shot straight at the keeper. Who parried it and the ball didn't fall kindly to a Steels player.
Around 10 minutes left and Shaw Lane saw red for a late challenge on Joe Lumsden.
The ref added 6 minutes on which Shaw Lane tried to get an equaliser but Steels held out for a fine win, and leaving Chris Hilton a very happy manager,
