Steels crashed out of the Buildbase FA Trophy, losing 4-1 to Evo-Stik North side Atherton Collieries.
The visitors took the lead on 20 minutes through Christian Holt, and increased their lead 15 minutes later after Liam McFadyen tried to pass back to goalkeeper David Reay, who was wrong footed and the ball found the corner of the net.
Steels started the second half the stronger of the two teams, but the game was effectively over when Iain Howard scored on 85 minutes. Ben Hardcastle increased the visitors lead on 90 minutes. Luke Mangham coming on as a second half substitute scored his debut goal for the Steels in extra time.
Atherton where the better of the two teams on the day and deserved their win.
Steels are in Sheffield Senior Cup action on Wednesday when they travel to Sandy Lane to face Worksop Town.
