Hilton frustrated at Newcastle draw

Newcastle Town 2 Stocksbridge Park Steels 2

By David Bradley

Steels trip to Newcastle Town looked like it was going to be an easy 3 points after they took the lead within 4 minutes.

Steels were slick and the passing was smooth. The movement and passing for the 1st goal was exceptional and when Todd Jordan crossed for Joe Lumsden to head home everything looked good.

Steels had plenty of chances to add to the goal tally but couldn’t convert them. But they were then sloppy and gave the ball away in their own half and Newcastle’s 1st shot resulted in a goal as Lee shot past Reay who had no chance.

Steels were still in control and just before half time they went back in front with a well worked goal. Brodie Litchfield crossed and Joe Lumsden slid in at the back post to scramble the ball home.

The 2nd half saw Newcastle Town come out with more purpose and within 4 minutes were level, more sloppy play let in Wilson to score the second for Newcastle Town.

For a while it looked like Newcastle would get the third, but then Steels found a different gear, unfortuneatly they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Shot after shot went wide or saved and in the final moments Lumsden had a shot superbly saved to keep the score 2-2 at full time.
