It’s with great pleasure that we can announce the appointment of lifelong Steelman Peter Kenney to the role of president of Stocksbridge Park Steels Football Club.
Peter started as a player for the steelworks under 18 team, and then spent many years pulling on the Steels shirt for the reserve side, before hanging up his playing boots and moving onto other tasks within the club, in-between Peter had to do his national service at the age of 21, where he joined the Navy and served as an engineers clerk.
Peter joined the committee in 1988 and has played a major part in putting Stocksbridge Park Steels FC onto the non-league football scene.
For 30 plus years Peter has been helping with all sorts of ground maintenance and repairs, spending many hours with a paintbrush or hammer and nails fixing and keeping the ground safe.
He also joined his wonderful wife Marina along with Janet, to run the snack bar for the spectators, and food and drinks for the players and visiting committee members
Peter and Marina are now the face of Stocksbridge hospitality as they play hosts to visitors and dignitaries who come to the Steels home fixtures, and they do make a super pot of tea.
To mark the inauguration of Peters role we will be asking the crowd at Easter Mondays home fixture with Frickley Athletic, to show their appreciation and meet Peter at the ground, why not have a cup of tea with him.
