Our reserve team got their season off to good start with a strong 2-0 win over neighbours Oughtibridge WMFC.
There have been several changes to the squad this season and there were eight teenagers in the squad on Wednesday night, they made a bright start and went one nil up after five minutes, when a good ball into the box from captain Andy Dawson wasn't dealt with and 17yr old Lewis Wilson pounced to score from close range.
Our midfield were winning their battles and playing some good football, the pitch was perfect for our passing game, Oughtibridge had several experienced players and it was a good test for our young players who were guarded by the few older heads on the pitch.
We defended well when we had to and kept taking the game to them ,Lewis Whitham was replaced on 65 minutes and his replacement another 17 yr old Tom Kerry made the game safe with a well taken goal rounding the keeper to slot home.
We finished the game with four seventeen year olds on the pitch and one of these Rodney Bruce went on a fine run in the final minutes before been hacked down in the
box to win a penalty, unfortunately Harry Hurst fired over the bar ( if anyone in Bolsterstone finds the ball we would be grateful for its return ) it was a shame for Harry because he had been superb throughout the game.
Overall a good solid performance against strong opposition hopefully we can build on this going forward.
All our reserve games are free entry please come along and support the lads ,bar and refreshments area are open for all games.
