Stocksbridge PS Res 2 Frecheville 2
By: Graham Furness
Steels reserves continued their fine start to the season with a hard fought draw. Following on from their good midweek win at Penistone Church, the Steels had to make several changes due to work, holiday and wedding engagements, this gave opportunities to the under eighteen squad players to show what they could do.
Frecheville were a typical County Senior side made up of strong experienced players but our young squad did very well, the starting eleven included three nineteen year olds and three seventeen year old players with two seventeen year olds on the bench.
Frecheville had a lot of the ball in the opening exchanges, but it was Steels
who took the the lead with Grayson firing in following a keeper error, they had more opportunities to increase their lead, Seventeen year olds Bruce who led the line well on his own set up impressive youngster Nunnington who was denied with a fine save, Hurst also hit the bar.. Will Bond kept the lead intact before half time with a fine penalty save.
The second half saw the opponents have plenty of the ball and they equalised when Steels gave the ball away in the midfield area and were punished. The lead was restored when both Adams and Hurst both headed the ball into the goal from a good free kick delivery by Dawson, they were still arguing who had scored well into the night, once again Bond produced a good save to maintain the lead shortly after. Frecheville did equalise with a looping header from a free kick. And in the last stages of the game both sides had chances to win the game. a draw was a fair result and it means the Steels have taken seven points from their first three games.
