White Swan Balby 3 Stocksbridge PS Res 9

After starting the season four games unbeaten it was Association Cup duty today for Steels reserves.

The tie was against Doncaster Senior League side White Swan played on the 4g surface at the Keepmoat Stadium the weather was poor with light or heavy rain throughout the afternoon.

Nunnington and Berresford with a combined age of thirty six were causing problems down the right hand side and from one of their forrays a free kick was awarded and Andy Dawson with a combined age of thirty three on his own floated a ball into the top corner of the goal.

Some of the football played in the first half was superb and the goals started to rain in Rodney Bruce scored two with good finishes from excellent passing moves.

Dawsons set piece deliveries were causing problems and Jordan Crofts ghosted in to add to the tally,Luke Webster added another and Oliver warren arrived late in the

box to head home a great ball from Berresford to make it six ,the opposition pulled one back with a well taken free kick.

The rain turned really heavy in the second half but we started well ,however White Swan pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, this gave them a brief lift and they added a third shortly after .We stayed at the task and soon added a seventh with Crofts getting his second from a corner by Dawson. Quick thinking by Bruce from another corner allowed Warren to get his second,Webster got his brace with a fine volley.

A good all round performance by a very young reserve side , we had a lot of our under eighteen squad involved today and its a credit to Paul and Darren for the way these lads have adapted to adult football so far this season.

Our next game is away at Hepworth FC on Saturday 15th September.
