Stocksbridge PS Res 4 South Kirkby Colliery 2
The reserves got back to winning ways on Saturday following their cup loss last week, the return of strikers Webster and Townsend was a big boost and also the addition of young striker Lewis Whitham.
Steels started the game well and created and missed several chances before Whitham forced the ball over the line from close range to give them the lead, unfortunately he was forced off after twenty minutes with an ankle injury.
Kirkby got back in the game with an equaliser but Steels responded well going down the pitch and scoring when forwards Webster and Townsend linked up for Townsend to head home straight from the restart, the score was two, one at half time but the lead should have been much bigger. Chances came and went in the second half and Grayson missed a penalty early on.
Adams made it three finishing off a move started by substitute Bruce with a good ball into the box, however Kirkby closed the gap again shortly after.Steels were always in charge and another young substitute Staniland was making his present felt getting forward from his left back position, Shepherd finally put the result beyond doubt with a good strike from the edge of the box to secure the three points and keep Steels in third place in the league with twenty one points from ten games .
