Steels reserves entertained Jubilee FC on Saturday afternoon and in a hard fought contest came out 3-2 winners , both sides shared the opening exchanges and Steels couldn't get their passing game going and gave the ball away too easily which was putting them under pressure however the Steels defence marshalled by Adams stood firm and the goal didn't really come under threat.
The breakthrough came on twenty minutes when Luke Townsend pounced on a goalkeeper error to walk the ball into the net. Shortly after Ashley Simpson made it two with a good header from a corner kick. By now Steels were on top and but for poor decision making in and around the box would have increased their lead, however Jubilee got back in the game when they pulled a goal back before half time.
Steels started the second half well and good pressure forced the keeper to rush his kick and again the ball fell to Townsend who was bundled down in the box and got up to score the penalty.
Once again steels failed to kill the game off and allowed Jubilee to pull a goal back and stay in the game ,by now Jubilee were passing the ball better than Steels and Steve Shutt made three changes bringing on under eighteen players Nunnington, Staniland and Hawkesworth to provide fresh legs this and the fact Jubilee went down to ten men for a rash challenge helped to see the game through. Whilst not pretty it was a decent performance that took the reserve side back up to third in the table with 24 points from 11 games which is an excellent return from the young side.
The next game is on Saturday 17th November away v local rivals High Green Villa at Thorncliffe 2pm KO.
