Stocksbridge PS Development 2 Stocksbridge PS Reserves 1

Both teams were drawn together in the third round of the County Senior League cup and it was the development squad who came away with the bragging rights .the game started fairly evenly with neither team wanting to give anything away, the development team forcing a few early corners, the game started to settle down and a good battle was developing in midfield between reserves captain Shepherd and Danny Broomhead who once again proved he is capable of playing in an higher division .The reserves took the lead when a a good ball into the box was calmly finished by Lewis Whitham, however instead of pushing on the reserves sat back and thought the job was done which was far from the truth and the the development squad should have equalised after fine work from Cleote and good ball into the box failed to find a finish.

Central defenders Rogan and Hudson were playing very well against reserves forwards Whitham and Townsend and good battles were forming all over the pitch ,the equaliser came with a good strike from Kirk from the edge of the box past Ratcliffe ,this resulted in a ten minute spell of pressure from the development squad who were now fired up . Kerry replaced Grayson for the reserves and this brought a bit of calmness to the midfield with better passing and the reserves starting to threaten once again with Townsend and Whitham going close ,the game looked to be heading for extra time when a rush of blood from veteran keeper Ratcliffe who was playing for the suspended Bond came outside his box to clear but hit the ball against his own defender to leave Cleote with an empty goal to score the winner .Even then from the kick off the reserves went forward and Hurst headed straight at the keeper but that was the last action of the game .

Credit to Steels development squad on the win and some good performances from their young players, the mentality of some of the reserve team came into question after the game after last weeks heroics to draw with ten men against a team third in the Premier Division to lose in the way they did.
