Stocksbridge PS Res 1 Hepworth United 2
Our reserves suffered only their second defeat in the league last Saturday at a very windy Bracken Moor.
Steels kicked with the wind at their backs first half and soon had Hepworth under pressure they kept the ball on the floor and passed it well getting both full backs Staniland and Berresford forward and forcing several corners.
The first goal came after good work from Webster in midfield and a fine through ball freed Townsend to square for Whitham to slot home, further chances were created but unfortunately Steels couldn't find the second or third goal and the score remained the same at half time.
It was a real battle in the second half with wind and rain to contend with and Steels defence did well to protect Bond in the home goal whilst still creating the odd chance at the other end, however as the game went into the last fifteen minutes Steels started to defend deeper and deeper and eventually the equaliser came a whipped cross going in at the far post.
Steels changed to three up front and started to pose a threat again but the wind was making the game very scrappy, the winner came when a poor kick from Bond was punished with five minutes to go.
Overall not a bad performance but disappointing to drop three points.
The reserves have no game this weekend and are at home v Grimethorpe on the 22nd December
