Stocksbridge PS Res 0 North Gawber 3
Steels reserves welcomed top of the table North Gawber to the Look Local Stadium, Gawber recently beat Maltby Main to reach the Senior Cup Final. Steels were missing several players through injury and work commitments so they knew they were in for a hard game.
Gawber were a big side who posed a big threat from set pieces but the Steels defence coped well in the first half, but they were struggling to create many chances at the other end, although they did hit them two or three times with good counter attacks. the score was nil nil at half time.
Steels lost defender Hurst before the break with a bad ankle injury so sixteen year old Cameron Ronksley came on at the back, the second half followed a similar pattern with Gawber pressing hard to to get a goal, and the Steels defence holding out which they did until the hour mark when Gawber took the lead.
Rodney Bruce then suffered a ankle injury and had to leave the field and with all the subs used up Steels were down to ten men, they battle well and created a couple of chances before Gawber extended their lead from a corner this was a big knock to Steels but they didn't let their heads go down and kept battling. Gawber sealed the game again from a corner kick, this is a difficult spell for Steels who next face third placed Swinton Athletic before a trip to second placed Dodworth FC but it will be a good test for the young players, they have now dropped out of the top four for the first time this season. This was their last home game .
