Steels reserves brought their season to a close on Saturday with a fine 3-0 win at South Kirkby FC, it has been a good season for the very young squad who up until March had been in the top three in the Premier division of the County Senior League.
Unfortunately in March they suffered long term injuries to three players and it fell in a period where they had to play the the top two teams and the fourth placed club and they suffered three defeats and dropped to fifth place. However they got back on track in April and only had one defeat in five games all played away.
If the managers had been asked at the start of the season if they would take a fifth place finish then they would have accepted, the young players have done very well against strong physical sides and it is a good test to prepare them for the next level of football, we know they are technically good so they need to learn how to cope with the other side of the game, the squad has been made up of players twenty years old and under with only five players older.
Players have been included from both our under eighteen teams which is good for the club hopefully some will follow Ben Rhodes into the first team. Some of last years squad have been dual registered this season with NCE league clubs to further help their development.
