Over the last month football and footballers have attracted some negative criticism, so I thought I ought to highlight what a great squad of players and management we have had at Stocksbridge Park Steels this season.
Last summer due to a downturn in income we had to make the decision to reduce our playing budget, whilst also trying to maintain a competitive edge in a strong Northern Premier League, with our division containing some big spending clubs.
Manager Chris Hilton didn't stamp his feet or throw a tantrum ,he took it in his stride as did most of the playing squad and they showed a togetherness and a team spirit, to produce some excellent performances to keep us in and around the playoff positions up to the abrupt end of the season.
That togetherness has come to fore once again with all the players and management, contract and non contract agreeing to forego the wages that were do to them up to the end of April.
This is a fantastic gesture which will help the club through what is certainly going to be a very difficult period of time. Graham Furness Chairman
