LATE WINNER FOR THE RESERVES

Houghton Main 2 SPS Reserves 3

After hitting the woodwork 4 times during a confident and constructive first half hour or so, SPS  Reserves found themselves going in at half time 2 goals down. The home side really coming into the game the last quarter and capitalising on our missed opportunities.

Half Time:  Houghton Main 2 – 0 SPS Reserves

Billy Hilbert converting a penalty only two minutes into the second period  to make it 2 -1 was just reward for an all round solid performance for the inform striker.

With time ticking by and tactical changes afoot centre half Josh Allinson was sent up top for the nuisance value and duly levelled the score line from a set piece situation on 87minutes. Back heeling skilfully into  the net.

A frantic finale ensued, the referee indicated 4 minutes added time, Zac Walker pressed forward and unleashed a fizzing shot which was too hot to handle, parried upward by the home goalkeeper only to see U18 starlet Brandon Whitfield on hand to bravely steam in and head home the loose ball from close range.
