Frickley Athletic F.C. 2 Stocksbridge PS 2
(Frickley win 5-4 on Pens)
On a cold crisp night, the game certainly warmed the crowd, as often said in football this was a game of two halves.
The Steels were forced into changes and with no Goalkeeper, captain Liam McFadyen played in goal, Ludlam came in at centre back, and Danny Frost was up front for the injured Mangham.
With the home side playing a more direct style of football, The Steels were struggling to make chances, and Frickley went in to the break 2-0 up, through Jonathon Margetts and Sam Cable.
Kane Swinburn replaced Danny Frost for the second half, Ruthven pushing up to centre forward, and the game changed, with the Steels absolutely battering the home side.
Man of the Match Lewis Whitham was at his best and the home defender was tormented for the whole of the half And it was two crisp passing moves that supplied the goals, Scott Ruthven placing his shot into the net for the first, and then a spectacular second from Lewis Whitham.
The tie looked like there was only going to be one winner, as The Steels dominated, but the home keeper and a lot of luck kept Frickley in the game, finishing 2 - 2.
And onto penalties, where the home side scored all five and sadly The Steels missed one.
A great performance that deserved more.
