Stocksbridge Park Steels will look to bounce back from their shock 3-2 Senior Cup defeat against NCE League side Maltby Main when they host lowly Romulus at Bracken Moor this weekend.
Steels had led 2-0 at half-time and looked on course for the semi-finals until Maltby hit back with three goals of their own to leave manager Chris Hilton perplexed.
“I’m still scratching my head as to how we can go from a first half where we completely in control to a second half collapse, “ said Hilton.
“We’ve conceded two silly goals coming straight after Brodie (Litchfield ) missed a great chance to put us 3-0 up. We wish Maltby all the best in the next round but for us it simply wasn’t good enough and it certainly wont be accepted.
“The only good thing to come out of the game was that Alex Wiles got some game time on the pitch after his long term injury.”
Hilton says he expects a tough game against Romulus despite their league position of 19th from 22 teams “They’ve got a new management team in and are unbeaten in four games so we’re probably playing them at the wrong time.”
Hilton also felt the defeat against Maltby showed they wont make the top six and was brutally honest in his assessment said, “ We’re not going to make the play-offs its as simple as that. We’re not good enough.”
Romulus arrive fourth from bottom and with just one away win from 14 league games although they beat Steels 3-2 in the reverse fixture in early November
