RESERVES DIG DEEP

North Gawber FC 0 Stocksbridge PS Reserves 0

Our young squad travelled to North Gawber on Saturday to face the league leaders who had beaten Dodworth FC 5-1 the week before to go top.

We knew we would be up against a big strong team who would cause us problems at set pieces and dead ball situations ,but from the kick off our shape out of possession was superb.

Apart from Richard Adams our back four consisted of four teenagers and they performed well, although Gawber had the lions share of the ball during the first half Will Bond our keeper didn't really have to deal with a shot on goal.

Some of our players had played one hundred and twenty minutes on Wednesday in the Youth cup tie against Tadcaster FC and the pace was always going to tell.

Special mention must go to midfield player Oliver Warren who played the whole ninety minutes with an ankle ligament injury to help the cause and was superb . Once again captain Adam Shepherd set the standards and we dug really deep in the second half to seal the point ,we did create a few chances but overall it was a back to the wall performance to seal the point .

Seventeen year olds Adam Morley and Joe Hawkesworth came on to add fresh legs and they did very well Joe produced a composure belying his age and he produced one or two big tackles.

In the last ten minutes Will Bond also contributed with two good saves.

Another point gained one defeat in nine games ,second clean sheet on the trot and still in third position in the division with a team made up mostly of teenagers so we could not be more pleased.

Our next game is at home on Saturday 13th October v Caribbean FC in the Association Cup
