RESERVES END ASSOCIATION WITH CUP FOR THIS SEASON

Stocksbridge PS Res 1  Caribbean FC 2

Steels were up against Caribbean FC in the second round of the Association Cup at a windy Look Local stadium on Saturday, only four of the squad were over nineteen.

Caribbean were a typical County Senior side mid twenties and physically stronger, the first half was a good encounter with both teams battling for supremacy with neither keeper being tested. Caribbean took an early second half lead when Steels defence failed to deal with a ball into the box, this prompted manager Shutt to change the side and push seventeen year old Simpson into midfield, this had an immediate effect and Steels were back on the front foot.

They started to work the opposition keeper and Warren equalised with a shot from the edge of the box, both teams went close and Bond had to be alert to keep it level. As the game went into extra time Warren missed a good chance to put Steels ahead

forcing the keeper into a good save, a break away led to Caribbean taking the lead in the second half of extra time, Steels kept pressing and the Caribbean keeper produced three more good saves to win them the game.

Our young side battled well on the day but were just lacking a bit physically but it was a good learning experience for them to take into the next game which is at home on Saturday 20th October v South Kirkby FC in the league.
